Messer’s high-purity oxygen enables advanced ozone treatment, which has become a widely applied process in drinking water production.
When traditional treatment methods are difficult to ensure the safety of drinking water quality, ozone, as a high-efficiency strong oxidizer, has become an environmentally friendly and effective deep treatment solution. As one of the strongest oxidants, ozone reacts with impurities in water to produce only oxygen and harmless oxides, which are environmentally friendly without leaving harmful by-products or odors. Today, ozone processes are increasingly used in waterworks to efficiently disinfect, remove contaminants, and improve the taste of tap water. Due to the decomposition instability of ozone, it must be prepared immediately at the water plant site through an ozone generator, and high-purity oxygen is the core raw material for this process. Messer provides high-purity oxygen with a stable purity of over 99.5%, ensuring that ozone generators operate efficiently and consistently produce ozone that meets treatment needs. At the same time, in order to help water plants verify the feasibility of the process, Messer can also provide supporting pilot equipment to support the whole process of testing from small test to pilot test, helping water plants optimize ozone dosage and reaction time, and achieve an accurate balance between treatment effect and cost.

In industrial operations, the treatment of alkaline wastewater is often a challenge. Messer offers an innovative alternative by replacing traditional acid neutralization with carbon dioxide, achieving safe and economical neutralization. Compared with conventional acid methods, carbon dioxide systems are easier to operate. As a natural component of the water cycle, carbon dioxide introduces no secondary contaminants and does not bring in new pollutants, making it a safer and more environmentally responsible choice. The mild and stable carbonic acid formed when carbon dioxide dissolves in water avoids the risk of over-neutralization, enabling accurate pH adjustment. In treating alkaline wastewater with high hardness, it also helps remove carbonate scaling, ensuring that wastewater can reliably meet discharge standards. Excess COD and ammonia nitrogen in industrial wastewater are treated through oxygen-consuming activated sludge reactions. Compared with conventional air aeration, pure oxygen can raise the dissolved oxygen concentration in aeration tanks several times over, offering greater adaptability to varying organic loads. This approach significantly shortens treatment cycles, boosts wastewater treatment efficiency, and consistently improves effluent quality. Messer’s BIOX process integrates advanced pure oxygen technology with customized oxygen supply solutions, dedicated equipment, and end-to-end technical support to ensure systems run with maximum efficiency. ​ When industrial wastewater contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, azo dyes, other refractory or toxic substances, or when municipal wastewater requires the removal of pharmaceutical residues and micro-pollutants, advanced oxidation processes are required. Ozone, as a strong oxidant, can efficiently degrade such persistent pollutants and reduce COD. Because ozone is unstable, it must be generated on-site from high-purity oxygen.
