Xichang, Sichuan, China, November 17, 2025 — Messer, the largest privately held industrial gas company, has successfully commissioned its third large-scale air separation unit (ASU) at its joint venture, Sichuan Pangang Messer Gas Products Co., Ltd., in Xichang. The new facility delivers an oxygen production capacity of 45,000 Nm³/h, raising Messer’s total ASU capacity in the city to over 100,000 Nm³/h. This expansion significantly enhances the reliability and quality of gas supply for the regional metallurgical industry.

As a critical industrial gas assurance project for the Xichang region, the new ASU not only increases output capacity but also reinforces supply stability, operational safety, and overall flexibility of the regional industrial gas network. Alongside oxygen, nitrogen, and argon, the facility integrates robust backup capabilities, intelligent production control technologies, and optimized distribution systems. These strengths provide strong safeguards for uninterrupted operations and contribute to cleaner, safer, and more efficient metallurgical production.

“This important milestone reflects our long-term commitment to the development of our customers and the region’s metallurgical sector,” said Marc Wachter, CEO of Messer China. “Through expanded capacity, reliable execution, and strong local responsiveness, we are reinforcing a secure and resilient gas supply foundation to support our customers’ ongoing growth.”

The commissioning of this new ASU marks another significant achievement in the partnership between Messer and Pangang Group. Looking ahead, Messer will continue strengthening collaboration with metallurgical, electronics, and new energy material industries in the region. By leveraging its advanced engineering expertise, proven quality systems, and reinforced redundancy, Messer remains dedicated to ensuring high-quality gas supply to enable sustainable industrial growth in Southwest China.
