Youngest subsidiary in China
On April 26, Zhangjiagang Messer(ZhMG), Messer's youngest company in China, celebrated its grand opening in Zhangjiagang Chemical Park.
Mr. Zhuang Zhongqiu, the vice Secretary of Zhangjiagang, Ms Ebba Scholl, Consul for Culture from Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Shanghai, Mr. Stefan Messer, CEO of Messer Group presided over the opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony. The local government officials, numerous customers as well as the employees involved in the project also enjoyed the festival.
Mr. Messer said in his address at the ceremony, "With the fast development of the Chinese economy, there has been rapid growth in demand for our products. The investment in a new plant in China shows our commitment to this market. Meanwhile, this is also one of the important steps for Messer's expansion strategy in easten China."
Ms Ebba Scholl said, "Messer China is a good example of German medium sized companies making a successful way into the Chinese market. Medium sized companies are very flexible, react to market needs, contribute to R & D as well as the creation of jobs and offer much to the professional training of their managers, administrative staff as well as workers. As well as Messer will profit from this location ZhangJiaGang will also profit from the settlement of Messer China here – a natural benefit – a win-win-situation."
As part of the ceremony, ZhMG donated five motorized bicycles to Zhangjiagang child welfare service to make the long journey to school easier for its five students with slight disabilities. The donation was accepted by Gu huijuan, president of the child welfare service.

Respectively in early and in late 2006, ZhMG put into operation a hydrogen unit and an air separation unit (ASU). The ASU is by far the largest liquid ASU in operation in China. These two facilities contribute to Messer being able to manufacture a complete series of products within the same production base so as to acquire more advantages in its expansion of markets in the Yangtze Delta Area and East China Area.
